Four Haitian police officers killed in 15 days

FOUR HAITIAN POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN 15 DAYS

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Four Haitian National Police officers have been shot in cold blood over the past 15 days in the lead-up to the United Nations Security Council vote to extend the mission of its peacekeeping force in Haiti.

PNH Spokesman Garry Desrosiers spoke an interview Thursday morning where he detailed the attack on Officer Pierre Borgelon who was shot 12 times in the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

The attack took place in the officer’s very own neighborhood and police believe at least two shooters took part.

According to testimonies collected on site, the killers fled with the officer’s service weapon in the direction of Grand Ravine in Martissant, where heavy fire of various calibres were heard shortly after, a Report é Desrosiers inspector.

Desrosiers said Borgelon was the fourth officer shot in 15 days. Other recent officer deaths that have made headlines:

On October 2, 2015, Officer Francisco Gideon, was found dead that morning at Delmas 19, Zone 1. The officer was not shot. His body was found near his damaged motorcycle. He may have been the victim of a hit and run.

On October 1, 2015 an officer in civilian attire was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on motorcycles at Toussaint Louverture Boulevard and Piste.

On September 14, 2015, two police officers were shot dead in the commune of Cité Soleil. Officers Edouard occil and porcenat Banarve were shot multiple times by unidentified individuals.

It s been noted by human rights organizations that there is always an uptick in violence before the annual UNSC meeting. This rise in insecurity is used to justify the presence of the UN peacekeeping mission, now in Haiti 11 years.

In the context of democracy, the UN Stabilization Mission had not made an advancement. Haiti, is under the control of a totalitarian regime after being a democracy of 5,000 elected officials nationwide.

MINUSTAH had assisted in suppressing protests for elections in recent years and now, with Haiti in a institutional crisis, is working with others in the international community to proceed with an electoral process deemed dangerous and fraudulent.
